Over a 10 day period ending last week we had a particularly nasty problem with the Service Desk Application. As part of troubleshooting I needed to investigate whether there were any SQL server changes or SQL errors, and eventually had to get an urgent temporary restore of our database to test a workaround. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the SQL Services team’s quick and professional response. Not only did they help quickly with each request, but they went to some trouble to offer advice and suggestions around the problem. Once again the DiData SQL Services team stands out from other service providers in the support they provide, and it’s been a huge help in getting over this particular issue.

DATA MODEL REVIEW

The Physical Data Model review looks at the physical layout of the database structure with the view to identifying issues that may impact data integrity, performance and security. Quite often application performance issues can be avoided or rectified by ensuring the physical database structure is reviewed and optimised. A number of areas of the physical database structure are assessed during this process such as table design, integrity constraints and indexes.

While storage is usually considered to be low cost, small improvements in database design can result in enormous savings on CPU usage, memory usage, network usage and backup size. This review looks at how these savings can be achieved and can identify the changes required to the physical database structure to bring about the improvements.
